Speaker: David Mesterhazy Title: Ask not what quantum computing can do for you - ask what you can do for quantum computing Abstract: The past years have seen an increasing interest in noisy intermediate-term quantum technology with incredible worldwide adoption also beyond academic research. But what can be expected realistically from this technology? In this talk, I will survey recent developements in quantum computing hardware and software stacks, and I will explain how to develop and implement near-term hybrid quantum-classical applications using common software platforms. I will highlight how algorithmic improvements (both classical and quantum) may dramatically improve the resource requirements and computational efficiency of these programs, thus bringing interesting problems into reach of tomorrow's quantum computing hardware.
