Speaker: Matthijs Hogervorst (CERN & Ecole Normale Superieure) Title: Truncated Conformal Space Approach: a cheap alternative to the lattice? Abstract: Apart from the lattice, few techniques are available to deal with strongly coupled quantum field theories. In this talk, I will discuss one such method: the Truncated Conformal Space Approach (TCSA). This is a numerical method for non-perturbative calculations in renormalization group flows in D dimensions. The scheme relies only on the ultraviolet properties of the theory. As a guiding example, I will discuss phi^4 theory and its spectroscopy in the Z_2 broken and unbroken phases, as well as its critical point (i.e. the critical point of the Ising model).
